25.08.00 - READING FESTIVAL 2000 @ THE CARLING TENT

This was one that I certainly did not went to miss! Wilt's set was quite short, as it was the smallest tent there, but they certainly drew quite a crowd. I met up with some mates just before who started to explain that Wilt were going to be be delayed by 20 mins, but before they got a chance to finish I realised that Wilt were just coming on! I was unfortunate (again) not to get the set list, so I can't say exactly what was played; but the usual for a short gig I would guess! Because the album by then had been out for almost 2 months, there were ACTUAL fans there who were singing along to all of the songs etc...It certainly made me happy to see SO MANY of them moshing and singing compared to the first few times when I have seen Wilt when no-one had ever heard of them!
I was determined for Wilt to see that I was there (as they know me), so for the first time in my life I crowd surfed! It wasn't much, but it gave me a good chance to get their attention. Did it work? Nope! They did not see me at all. Oh well...it was fun anyway, even if the 'Specialised' Security were suitably specialised: NO BRAINS instead of pea brains!!
Anyway, Wilt were at their best, in fact the best I have seen them! Even if at one point I thought the seemingly over eager smoke-blokie would completely fog Wilt out with dry ice! During the mosh I bumped into two girls who between them were waving an Irish flag, so I had a chat with them afterwards. It turned out that they came from Kent, and not Ireland, but were just big Wilt fans! We all then went off to get incredibly crushed in the Foo Fighters mosh!
