04.07.00 - CO-HEADLINING WITH MY VITRIOL @ THE LOUISIANA (BRISTOL)

These Wilt gigs just seem to get better! I mean, you couldn't ask for more than seeing Wilt play in your home town on your Birthday! (which it was you see)
The gig itself as far as I knew was sold out, and judging by the packed room it probably was! This tour was co-headlining with My Vitriol, and varied which band was on last. This evening it was decided that My Vitriol would support Wilt, which was what I was rather hoping! Although My Vitriol were very good, I couldn't help but think why some of their 'fans' (i.e. people wearing My Vitriol t-shirts) stood practically at the back of the venue seemingly not taking much notice! Strange.
Fortunately Wilt didn't have that problem,  quite a few people seemed to know their songs and from what I can remember there was a small mosh going as well! Cormac seemed to be  wearing EXACTLY the same clothes as he was the week before at the Virgin Megastore signing! I have asked about this, and apparently Cormac has 13 blue t-shirts and 13 blue jeans, according to Darragh that is! (hmmm)
I was a bit gutted at this gig, as I could have got the album a week early, and thus knowing all of the songs. The only reason I didn't get it was because I was waiting for the limited edition version to come out! Still, having seen Wilt 3 times previously, did help me in remembering some of the songs which at that point I didn't have.
The thing that amused me was that the setlist for this gig was a tiny scrap of paper, which floated around on the stage. It did lead to problems, as it was the ONLY setlist that I could see. Cormac had the difficulty firstly in FINDING the setlist, and when he did, he had the problem of READING it! It least that didn't stop a fantastic gig anyway!

Oh yeah, and speaking of stopping the gig, there was a heckler! From what I gather he was a My Vitriol fan who was irate that his band had not headlined, and was basically shouting insults at Wilt like 'mediocre' (and probably worse!). Cormac retaliated to this remark by asking if the heckler would like to take centre stage and play his guitar and sing instead, to justify the insult that he had said.....Funnily enough he declined! What I couldn't understand was if he hated Wilt that much: WHY DID HE STAY TO WATCH THEM? I don't know, some people! And then there was an 'incident' with the same heckler and Darragh after the gig. Basically he had continued his heckling afterwards, which got to Darragh too much, and he had to stop it (this is what I have been told, as I didn't actually see it!) Apparently Darragh later stated that in all of his time in bands, he had never hit anyone (that is assuming he did in this case - I don't know for sure), but as it turned out this My Vitriol 'fan' was such an asshole it is my opinion that he deserved it!

Anyway, once the Wilt set had reached it's penultimate song 'Radio Disco', the rest of the crowd seemed to be won over, and the Wilt fans sang along in great unison. The final song 'Ex-pedestrians' I now seemed to know quite well from just seeing them live, and turned out to be a great song to finish on.

Afterwards me and my girlfriend (at the time), were convinced that we HAD to meet Wilt! If anything, I had the rest of my Birthday cake to finish off! We nicely asked a security blokie, and to our surprise he let us see them! By now Wilt had no difficulties in remembering me, as I had met the 3 times before. We had a good chat, and give the rest of my Birthday cake for Wilt to finish off!

What a way to celebrate my Birthday!
